With an unfavourable RET review (as requested by Tony Abbott) finally released – there has been a lot of publicity surrounding our Prime Minister. If he is to get his way, we will be the first country in the world to renege on renewable energy policies (and we are already the only ones who have introduced a carbon tax and scrapped it too). But why is he trying so hard to scrap something that even his own researchers have told him is good? Here’s what he doesn’t want the public to know…

The biggest thing that comes to mind is that the only people who benefit from this review (if its recommendations are carried forward) are big, dirty, fossil fuel companies. So why does Tony do it…

Because fossil fuels donated almost a million dollars to the liberals over the last 4 years!

Tony Abbott Doesnt care about our EarthInstead of calling for a review and letting the Climate Change Authority do it as the rule book requires, Tony had his own team appointed in order to get the desired result. He appointed Dick Warburton as head of the panel – someone who previously said on live ABC that he was a climate sceptic and said there was no solid science saying that man-made carbon dioxide adds to climate change.

This result was pre-determined before the review even began because Tony Abbott wants to line the pockets of those he is most likely to benefit from.

The review panel used a consultant to put some modelling together and used a consultant favoured by the coal industry. In addition, they made the consultant use data that was incorrect in order to achieve a favourable result to them. The modelling was made out of today’s coal and gas prices despite near certainty that gas prices are set to over double in price. If real forecasted figures were used, renewable energies would have looked too appealing for the review panel to possibly suggest slashing government support.

Even in doing this the consultants modelling showed that the RET would decrease electricity bills in the years to come – but the model also shows that home and business savings will out of coal profits.

The review claims that although the RET has been successful Tony Abbotts ‘Direct Action’ plan is a cheaper way of reducing emissions. The Direct Action plan has yet to actually be costed, it is unimplemented and tax payer funded.
As the SunWiz article points out – don’t kick the hornets’ nest Tony. Solar supporters have successful humiliated and caused back-downs in two governments.

John Grimes from the Australian Solar Council has also said that My Abbott and his followers can’t expect to push thousands of people out of their jobs and look forward to keeping theirs.
