SunEdison LogoSunEdison, a leading solar manufacturer, has finished constructing its 20MW solar plant in Kern Country, California. The plant consists of 80 000 SunEdison Silvantis solar PV modules.

The project, now completed, is owned by Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy who have worked with SunEdison on four projects since June 2012. SunEdison is still expected to provide maintenance and 24/7 monitoring through their Renewable Operations Center.

“We are proud to complete our fourth project with Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy; longstanding partnerships like this one are critical to SunEdison’s continued growth,” said Bob Powell, President, North America for SunEdison.  “Southern Company and Turner Renewable Energy are demonstrating their commitment to extending the use of renewable energy in the United States and we are honored that they have repeatedly chosen to work with us.”

The other projects that the companies have collaborated on include the 20 MW AC Apex solar farm in Nevada, the 30 MW AC Spectrum project in Nevada, and the 2.5 MW AC Granville generation facility in North Carolina.

Electricity from the solar farm is expected to be sold to Southern California Edison, a subsidiary of Edison International, under a 20 year power purchase agreement (PPA). Over the 20 year life span it is expected to produce enough electricity to power almost 92 000 homes and offset carbon emissions by the equivalent of taking 102 000 cars off the road for a year.

“Since 2010, the Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy partnership has developed more than 220 MW of solar generation in America,” said Southern Power President and CEO Oscar Harper. “We’re pleased to once again partner with SunEdison through the acquisition of the Adobe Solar Facility – adding another 20 MW of solar resources and further strengthening our growing renewable energy portfolio.”
