Queensland’s anti-solar Government looks as if it has been replaced with a bright new solar future. The Sunshine State voted on the weekend ousting Campbell Newman with the likely successor to be a Labor Government with a solar future.

Labor came into the election with a total of 9 seats and is expected to come out with the required 45. The Queensland people have definitely spoken. With over 400 000 homes and businesses in the Sunshine State using solar power and many wanting solar – Mr Newman should have listened to his people. Prime Minister Tony Abbott could also learn from this lesson.

The Australian Solar Council’s John Grimes has said to Tony Abbott that they time to drop his ‘anti-solar ideology is now!’ He also said, “There are more than 2 million solar families across Australia and millions more Australian families want to get solar. Tony Abbott – you cannot afford to continue your assault on solar and renewable energy.”

The Labor Party promised a bright solar future. They have committed to a million solar homes in Queensland by 2020 as well as 50% of the state’s electricity generation to come from renewable sources by 2030. They have promised to get an independent review into the feed in tariff and establish a fair price for the power produced by solar power systems. Labor will call for proposals to generate 40MW’s of baseload power as a trial for more renewables.

The LNP Government has seriously handicapped the whole industry; Labor’s solar future will hopefully create more jobs and get the life-blood back into the sector – and fast!

”Queenslanders have voted to save money and to save solar,” said Mr Grimes. “We will be making sure all Australians have that opportunity.”
