Engineering couple Julie and Scott Brusaw have been given a contract by the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) to invent solar roadways. It has been said that if all the roadways in the United States alone were changed to solar roads, they would produce three times more electricity than they actually needed!

Surprisingly…there is more! These roadways have the capability to show LED lighting in any pattern as well as detect any obstructions. So, if there was a tree that was on the road up ahead, the road leading up to the tree would be programmed to show a warning and tell drivers to slow down.

These solar roadways are also planned for sporting fields, car parks and driveways. Therefore, there would never be any reason to repaint lines as the LED lighting would never fade like paint. A basket ball court could be changed in an instant to a netball field simply by reprogramming the lights.

Once again…there is more! The hexagonal solar panels will also be heated (electricity for this all being generated by the solar panel itself of course!) This means, people will never have to shovel snow off their driveways again – all the while it is producing clean electricity. This also makes for safer roadways with less slippery surfaces.

And more still! The solar roads would be accompanied by small tunnels to contain wiring, including all the power lines. This takes away further risks we face every day of fallen power lines, exposed broken power lines and so on.

In addition to all the above benefits, rolling out a scheme such as this would create thousands of jobs everywhere! While it may take many years to roll out, it would make combating climate change a realistically easy job all over the world.
