As we have seen in many other states over the past year, Tasmania is the next to have their feed-in tariffs slashed. Those in Tasmania wanting to get solar power have until the end of the month to submit a connection application and still received the current higher feed-in rate of 1:1.

As of September 1st, all new solar power applications will only receive 8c per kilowatt hour exported back to the grid. The previous rate was just over 27c per kilowatt hour or on a 1:1 basis. Those who apply before the end of August will receive the higher rate until 1st January 2019.

Deputy Premier Bryan Green said, “This will ensure existing customers are treated fairly in light of the capital investments they have made under the current system.”

As seen in the other states, enforcing a deadline is likely to create a rush of orders and installations. Customers are encouraged not leave their enquiries to the last minute in order to avoid missing out. The 8c feed-in tariff is a transitional rate and will apply to all solar systems installed between September and December. The rate after December is still yet to be decided.
