Greens Senator Scott Ludlam was in Western Australia in Kalgoorlie on Tuesday having a meeting to discuss Goldfield’s renewable energy. He feels the city is the perfect leader for solar energy in Australia.

The Senator plans to use the Green’s ‘Connecting Green Energy’ plan as part of their roadmap for a more clean energy in Australia. The plan basically aims to map out Australia’s clean energy resources, involve the local community, set up Renewable Energy Development Zones and link to the national energy grid. It would help to eliminate the infrastructure barriers to more renewable energy being created.

“The community and business sector in the Goldfields are showing they are ready to take the leadership on solar energy,” said Senator Ludlam. “Research shows the Goldfield’s has the best resource in this State, and it has the connector line going back to Perth. We had a great response from locals when we came to Kalgoorlie in February and it’s very important we keep up the momentum.”

Along with many local Chambers and government parties was the SolarReserve energy company. With big utility scale installations behind them, they were the perfect company to be involved in the planning process.

The development would be the Green’s first step to increasing renewable energy. They have already called for a massive increase in the Renewable Energy Target and are now showing the way forward.
