This week ending 22nd March 2013 has been an exciting one for us at Evolution Solar Sunshine Coast. This week has seen our 24kW solar power system at ‘Beachcomber at the Spit’ Apartments finally finished!! In addition to that, we have seen the effects of the power of suggestion, the UAE opening the world’s largest concentrated solar power station and Earth Hour asking people to pledge to switch to renewable energy.

Sometimes I am reminded of the power of the media. Research has again come out about wind farms causing ‘Wind Turbine Syndrome’ which can show symptoms such as headaches, nausea, vomiting and all sorts. We have seen countless reports and research laying the issue to rest and showing that the ‘infrasound’ that apparently causes these symptoms, is actually higher in city areas than it is in areas surrounding wind farms. Now research is showing that news and media by anti-wind farm activities is actually causing people to show these symptoms. A test was carried out showing half the participants this news and media and not showing the other half anything. They were then exposed to infrasound – those who were exposed to the media showed many symptoms increasing in intensity while those who were not exposed showed little or no symptoms. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has inaugurated the world’s largest concentrated solar power (CSP) plant in Abu Dhabi. The 100 megawatt power plant, named Shams 1, cost $600 million US, covers 2.5 square kilometres, consists of 258 000 mirrors and will deliver renewable energy to around 20 000 homes. The plant adds considerably to Abu Dhabi’s goal of having 7% renewable energy by 2020. Click here to read the full article.

Earth Hour is being held this weekend on Saturday at 8.30pm. Please switch off your lights for the hour and support our environment. The movement has been started by Australians and embraced by the world. This year, Earth Hour is promoting renewable energy and asking people to pledge their support and switch. According to research commissioned by the WWF, 87% of Australians want more action to be taken in terms of renewable energy and get rated in the top ten producers of renewable energy.
