Germany is back in the record books this week with huge solar power outputs recorded. REC solar panels are soaring ahead with great testing results as well as new introductions to Argentina, Dubai and new installations in North Carolina. The ACCC is also expected to give its final stamp of approval on a Code of conduct for solar PV retailers.

Germany has broken its previous record by producing around 24GW’s of solar power output at around lunch time at the beginning of this week. At the peak time, the country was producing around 40% of its own electricity demand. The record comes from the countries estimated 1.4million solar power systems where around 8.5million people live in a building that uses some form of solar energy. It is no wonder that Germany is the world’s leader in solar electricity. Unfortunately, German solar company Conergy has also filed for insolvency. Many are sure the company’s insolvency administrators will be able to secure an investor to keep the company running on in the future. Once one of Europe’s biggest solar companies, Conergy has a lot to fight for. Click here to read the full article.

REC solar panels have undergone gruelling Blowing Sand Tests in which they faired exceptionally well. As the title suggests, the tests show how the panels perform under conditions where sand is continually blowing heavily on working solar panels. Conditions are usually tested under harder conditions than actually faced in reality. The company is very pleased with the results considering they have just announced the opening of a new office in Dubai. The REC 250W Peak Energy Series solar panels have also just been used to complete a 7MW plant in Argentina. The debut featured 8 400 REC panels which added the last 2MW’s to the power plant that has plans to expand further in the future – possibly with more REC solar panels. The ACCC is looking at granting authorisation to the Clean Energy Council (CEC) for a Code of Conduct to be carried out over the next five years. The Code, developed by the ACCC, the CEC and industry participants will police solar retailers. They are hoping to provide more consumer confidence, lessen complaints and ensure that quality solar systems are installed. The ACCC will be accepting submissions on their draft up until the 18th of this month but is expected to give its final stamp of approval. Click here to read the full article.

REC, once again in the news, has commissioned three new utility scale solar power farms in North Carolina. The solar projects, totalling almost 20MW’s, is expected to power just short of 2500 homes and reduce carbon emissions by 13 000 plus annually. The solar giant is also invited everyone to watch a presentation in which they will release their second quarter results. The conference can be heard via conference call or online on their website.
