Solar Scorecard LogoSolar Scorecard is a new website set up to let you know where your local MP stands on all issues renewable. In addition, it shows if they have solar power installed on their houses as well as how many people in their electorate have installed solar. The website is a project set up by the 100% Renewable group.

100% Renewable is a community initiated campaign that has grown tremendously over the last few years. Their main aim ultimately is to achieve a 100% renewable Australia.

The project they have taken on shows what each politician is or isn’t doing to support renewable energy. They have broken it down into 8 simple categories including the Renewable Energy Target (RET), where they stand on expanding the RET, the carbon tax and more. Each politician is given a sun icon, an emerging sun or a dark cloud depending on where they stand on the issue. If an issue has a question mark against it, it means that the politician in question has not yet responded to that particular issue.

Each politician has been sent a survey to find out where they stand on all the renewable energy issues and should have responded by the 1st July this year. 100% Renewable is also sending out “Solar Briefers” to each MP. This is another project they have delved into in order to make sure everyone has the correct information on renewable energy in their areas and where we can improve. Every local politician should know what their residents are doing and where they can help them achieve more. The brief includes the number of homes in the electorate that have solar power installed, the CO2 emissions statistics as well as the amount of money saved on electricity bills. While we may strongly trust in renewable energy and believe the research is very clear as to which direction we need to be heading in, our politicians beliefs and thoughts may not be as clear cut. We need our politicians to support renewable energy if we are going to reach a 100% renewable Australia. Lindsay Soutar, National Director of 100% Renewable, said “That’s why we have developed these two resources. So that our politicians understand the scale of the transformation under way, and they understand that Australians want this transformation to happen.”

“Together, we can make sure that no matter who wins on September 14th, renewable energy wins as well.”
